Data Patterns' core business for over 20 years has been the development of Automated Test Equipment for critical aerospace requirements. Data Patterns developed a Multi Programmer with associated test automation software in 1994. Christened the DP-800 this product was adopted for the implementation of test rigs for Navigation Platform Test Benches, Engine Test Bed Automation, Cable Harness Test Systems, etc. This product was effectively utilized in the development of test benches required by Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for the Polar Satellite Launch Vechicle (PSLV) and Geo Stationary Launch Vehicle (GSLV). Based on this foundation, the next generation test benches were developed in the cPCI architecture. Presently, Data Patterns develops cPCI based test systems for Laboratory applications as well as VME based test systems for challenging environmental conditions. TSI's Engine Exhaust Particle Sizer (EEPS™) 3090 spectrometer uses an array of sensitive electrometers, combined with three proprietary data inversion matrices, to provide real-time particle size data in 32 size channels (16 channels per decade). The data inversion matrices allow the researcher to optimize size distribution accuracy for specific particle types (soot, default and compact), and matrices can be applied at the time of measurement or in a post-processing environment. The EEPS spectrometer does not include any built-in sample dilution, giving the user maximum flexibility and independence with respect to sample conditioning. However, for measuring solid particles from engines, TSI now offers the Porous Tube Thermodiluter (PTT) 3098, a fully integrated sample conditioning solution for the EEPS spectrometer; the pair of them together is the Engine Exhaust Particle Measurement System (EEPMS) 3095.

The test system cluster architecture is based on dual CPU or 4-CPU PCs acting as cluster nodes. The nodes communicate and synchronise over a high-speed network (Myrinet or InfiniBand). A modification of the Linux operating system allows to run the test execution and evaluation algorithms in hard real-time on reserved CPUs, where scheduling is non-preemptive and controlled by the test system itself. The interrupts caused by interfaces to the system under test may be relayed to CPUs designated explicitly for their handling. This approach offers the opportunity to utilise high-performance standard hardware and the services provided by the widely accepted Linux operating system in combination with all mechanisms required for hard real-time computing. The cluster architecture presents an opportunity to distribute interfaces with high data throughput on different nodes, so that PCI bus overload can be avoided. In addition, the CPU load can be balanced by allocating test data generators, environment simulations and checkers for the behaviour of the system under test ("test oracles") on dedicated CPUs.
