The unit is compact and lightweight. The basic system is 7″ wide by 2.5″ high and 12″ long. When measurements are needed below approximately 100 micro-ohm-centimeters, the basic system is piggybacked onto a second enclosure that houses a power amplifier with a current gain of ten. The combined unit measures 7″ wide by 5″ high and 12″ long. The combined unit weighs 11.5 pounds. Two short cables interconnect the two enclosures for powering the power amplifier and routing the signals to the fixture or four point probe. The EM-2107A is a standard test fixture for evaluation of the electromagnetic shielding effectiveness of planar material. The fixture is an enlarged section of coaxial transmission line and complies fully with the requirements of ASTM test method D4935-1. The measured data relates to the shielding effectiveness due to a plane wave (far field EM wave) from which near field values for magnetic and electric fields may be inferred. The EM-2107A is provided with a reference standard test specimen, a dynamic range specimen. Dynamic range of greater than 80dB is achievable, although the cables and other test system components usually establishes the limiting factors.

Test plate changeover is a quick 2 minute job. 4 thumbscrews to change the bottom plate and 4 SHC screws to change the top plate. The top plate drops down and slides out with the connector assembly. The bottom plate lifts up and out. The new plates slide back in. All rear panel connectors are mounted to the aluminum bracket on the top plate. This whole top plate assembly slides out together eliminating wiring hassles. Double sided access plate sets use transfer pins to get the signals from the bottom plate up to the top plate.
