This device transforms a computer with an RS232 serial port into a talker, listener, or controller on the GPIB bus. It can also interface RS232 instruments and peripherals to the GPIB bus. It can implement the physical and electrical specifications of the IEEE 488 and RS232 standards, as well as interpret and execute high-level commands from the serial port, including RS232‑to‑GPIB and GPIB‑to‑RS232 protocol conversions. The timing channels record closing and an opening of the arcing, resistor, and auxiliary contacts. Also, the main contact channels can measure the resistance value of the pre-insertion resistors (if present in the circuit breaker).With CAT Advanced series instruments, it is possible to record graphs of open and close coil currents. Furthermore, it records displacements of the HV and MV circuit breaker moving parts. Also, a user can connect either an analog or a digital transducer to these universal channels.

For the measurement of tackiness (instantaneous adhesive strength) of various pastes and adhesive tapes, it is possible to quantitatively evaluate the data, which until now had large errors due to individual differences. First, press the measuring probe, which is controlled (approach speed, pressure force, pressure time, separation speed) against the sample, and measure the adhesive force in the process of separating. Measured data can be processed by a computer. With double temperature control (patented), the sample piece is preheated from the back side with a hot plate and the heated probe penetrates the measurement surface, making it possible to keep the set temperature and the temperature of the test surface to be evaluated constant. Since the pressurization time can be as short as 10msec, it is possible to measure the tackiness caused by momentary contact.
