Handheld Tachometers

The handheld tachometer is a means of measuring revolutions within the industrial sector, either optically or mechanically. The handheld tachometer can be used for maintenance and calibration of machines that have moving parts. The principle is similar to a bicycle speedometer, where time will be measured until a wheel has completely turned. The handheld tachometer has two different measurement methods.The handheld tachometer may have a contact connection to the moving parts. Alternatively, the handheld tachometer works with reflecting marks. This will be secured on the moving part. As the laser strikes the reflecting mark during rotation, it will be reflected and detected in the handheld tachometer via a sensor. Rotation speed and speed can be seen on the handheld tachometer. A radiation detector is a device for measuring nuclear, electromagnetic or light radiation. A nuclear radiation detector identifies nuclear radiation by measuring the emission of ionizing radiation of alpha particles, beta particles and gamma rays. Also referred to as a geiger counter, a nuclear radiation detector consists of two main elements: the processing electronics and the geiger tube. The geiger tube is filled with low-pressure inert gas like helium, argon or neon. If radioactive radiation occurs, the inert gas is ionized. An anode within the geiger tube registers the quantity of ionized particles numerically correlating with the strength of the radioactive radiation. The radioactivity measurement is then displayed on the LCD screen of the geiger counter or nuclear radiation detector.

With a portable sound level meter, industrial hygiene and workplace safety professionals can measure sound levels in multiple locations to ensure environmental conditions fall within recommended exposure limits (RELs). Some sound level meter devices can be permanently installed for continuous monitoring of sound levels at a work or job site.An important attribute to consider when searching for a suitable sound level meter is its type or class. The type or class of a sound level meter defines the device's accuracy as per American National Standards Institute (ANSI) or International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) guidelines. Typically, "type" is the grade according to the ANSI S1.4 standard, whereas "class" is the grade according to the IEC 61672 standard. There are two types or classes assigned to sound level meters: type 1 / class 1 or type 2 / class 2. For assessing noise in basic industrial, commercial, educational, recreational or residential applications, a type 2 / class 2 sound level meter usually will suffice. For precision-grade assessments often made in a laboratory, a type 1 / class 1 sound level meter primarily is used.
