BELMASS II is a quadrupole mass spectrometer (QMS), a unique mass analyzer used in mass spectrometry. As a quadrupole, it consists of four cylindrical rods arranged parallel to each other. By applying an oscillating electric field to the rods, the ions are separated based on the stability of their trajectories as a function of their mass-to-charge ratio (m/z). An electron multiplier detects the deflected ions. BELMASS II can be combined with various instruments. Especially in combination with a BELCAT II it can provide important information about the species of the desorbed gases from gas/vapor mixtures and their breakthrough curves.

The CS-150 is a high-precision chemical concentration monitor designed for use with the SPM solutions used in semiconductor-manufacturing cleaning processes. The system is ratiometric, meaning that it determines the ratio of each gas to other gases in a vacuum chamber. It is usually coupled with a total pressure gauge to provide partial pressures of each gas as indication of the quality of the vacuum in the chamber.

Flame Ionization Detector

A flame ionization detector converts a hydrocarbon gas concentration into an electrical signal. The flame is hydrogen fueled and burns in hydrocarbon free combustion air. Either side of the flame are two electrodes between which an electric field is generated by means of a polarization voltage. The sample is pre-mixed with the fuel gas and heated in the flame to a temperature at which the hydrocarbon molecules ‘crack’ and CH fragments appear. These CH fragments are oxidated by the oxygen in the combustion air resulting in the formation of CHO+ ions. The ion current then passes to the electrodes and the resulting current measured is proportional to the quantity of C atoms derived from organic compounds.The Thermo-FID features two separate microprocessor controlled pressure compensations to avoid any influence from environmental or sample conditions. In addition, the complete Thermo-FID range of analyzers are equipped with a flame trap that is used as a heated sample inlet filter. The measurement chamber and all material in contact with the sample gas are heated between 120°C and 200°C to avoid condensation.

The Kratos Ar Gas Cluster Ion Source (GCIS) is optimised for depth profiling organic materials in Arn+ cluster mode and inorganic materials in Ar+ monomer mode, dependent on the operating parameters defined by the user and the type of material to be profiled. In Arn+ ion cluster mode the ions can be accelerated up to a maximum of 20 keV. This enables the successful sputter depth profiling of the widest range of polymer materials to be undertaken. However, Arn+ cluster depth profiling has been shown to give very low sputter yields for inorganic materials. In order to retain the capability of generating depth profiles from this class of materials this ion source can also be operated in the more conventional Ar monomer (Ar+) mode.
