Corr Instruments offers a full range of exceptionally high performance, high-temperature and/or high-pressure UltraDeg probes, including pH electrodes, reference electrodes, platinum conductivity probes, and ORP(redox) electrodes, for temperatures up to 650F (343C) and pressures up to 5100 psi (35 MPa). These probes are ideal tools for corrosion monitoring, thermodynamic or electrochemical studies in harsh environments such as steam generators, nuclear power reactors, geothermal systems, deep oil/gas wells, and super critical water systems. Many of these UltraDeg probes are built upon our innovative sealing compound, Queon, which is the only known material in the world for sealing electrical conductors in metal sealing glands or compression feedthroughs that are operable at temperatures between 400F (200C) and 650F (343C).

IDA Electrodes

Interdigitated Array (IDA) electrode is an electrode developed for electrochemical measurements to be performed in a very small quantity of the sample. IDA electrode could be applied for the detection and reaction analysis of the compounds in a small quantity of the sample. IDA electrode is a microelectrode pattern fabricated by using the lithography technology. The Electrodes are composed of 65 pairs. In each one of the pair has a function of the oxidation and reduction electrodes.

Counter Electrodes

For a system using a three-electrode potentiostat, we measured current when a potential is applied between the working electrode and the reference electrode. Passage of current through an electrical circuit requires electron transfer reaction between the working electrode and the counter electrode.The main function of the counter electrode is to provide the location of the second electron transfer reaction. Important parameter of the counter electrode is the surface area. It is required (area) large enough to support the current generated for the working electrode. For example, the surface area of the platinum electrode of 5 cm is sufficient to use as an electrode, such as steady-state cyclic voltammetry experiments. However, for generating a high current measurements such as bulk electrolysis, the counter electrode of a larger area is required, as Catalog No.012961 which the length of platinum is 23 cm. This electrode is used for measurement, such as rotating ring disk.

Room Temperature Sample Holders

The 12962A sample holder is designed to allow accurate impedance tests of solid materials to be performed at room temperature. The sample holder consists of two parallel electrodes, one of which is fixed in position and the other which can be moved into contact with the sample by adjustment of a micrometer. The sample holder makes use of guard ring and reference techniques in order to improve accuracy by reducing “fringing” effects at the edge of the sample. The standard electrode provided is 20mm diameter.

The voltmeter included in the kit, the “Model IA” voltmeter, is designed for ease of use by meter readers and corrosion technicians alike and the voltmeter comes with an integrated RE-5 reference electrode attached for “metallic structure-to-soil” potential difference readings. The kit also includes a special test lead that has a brass thumb screw on one end which allows the test lead to substitute for the RE-5 reference electrode. This substitution allows the voltmeter to take “structure-to-structure” potential difference readings. The voltmeter offers a 0 - 2VDC range with a 10MΩ input impedance and the analog display presents a color divided scale for convenient indication as to whether or not a carbon-steel structure is receiving a suitable level of cathodic protection, with respect to the accepted 0.85V (850mV) threshold value.

The Portable optical DO meter makes use of the fast-response optical DO sensor RINKO, maintaining its high-speed response performance (99% response < 7sec). The meter probe is equipped with a temperature sensor close to the sensing foil, and the measurements are made by simply inserting the probe into a DO sample bottle (the calibration is carried out using the National Metrology Institute of Japan (NMIJ) certified traceable gases standards). Differently from galvanic electrode sensors, the instrument does not require water sample stirring or fixing reagents, since there is no oxygen consumption. Thus, the required time to estimate dissolved oxygen is considerably reduced. The display unit shows the output instantaneously, and you can check the measured values in real time.

The PRF-922B Miniature Two Point probe accurately measures point-to-point resistance of small areas. Electrochemical cells are designed to their special purpose. The method, the matter and their reactions as well as the environmental conditions define the limitations and demands for electrochemical cells and the electrodes. Standard corrosion testing cells may have a large volume, since corrosion products shall not change the solution grossly during the test. On the other hand, it may be valuable to collect corrosion products - then a very small volume is desired ("eluation cell"). Special corrosion tests for pitting reqiure a setup where undesired crevice corrosion is excluded ("Avesta cell" , "Quarfort Cell" or "Flushed port cell". Or you want to investigate in crevice corrosion, then the cell design should meet such conditions.
