High Current Transformers

High Current Transformer is designed to elevate and check the temperature of the conductors at high current levels, in order to simulate the current loading conditions found in electrical circuits. High Current Transformer is designed as an open type transformer that uses the test object as its secondary coil or has 1 or 2-turn self secondary winding. The conductors cores' temperature depends on the short-circuit high current caused by the test object. According to the current going through the test object, the test temperature of the conductor will change. The loop temperature is measured by a thermocouple probe which is directly connected to conductor.

The goal of the transformer is to inject a signal into the control loop being measured, without impacting the performance of the loop. Variable DC power supplies are AC to DC power supplies with a variable DC output. The output can be varied with a Variable Transformer (also known as variac). The Variable Transformer can be adjusted manually or with a motorized control. The AC input power can be single phase or three phases. With single phase AC input, the DC output ripple is very high (50%). With three phase AC input, the DC output ripple is low (5%). This would be a key benefit for selecting three phase AC input instead of single phase.

The Display used to monitor the 20Hz and 50Hz current passing through NGT transformer. This could help to monitor the stator earth fault and could record the current every minute. The current shall be displayed in milliamps for both 20Hz and 50Hz. If an earth fault occurs in the generator star point, the 20 Hz voltage drives a current through the fault resistance. The current can be measured using clamp-on CT which would be clamped between load resistor and NGT. It gives an indication of the current values are lower or higher than the set threshold.
