Crack Opening Displacement (COD) gauges
COD
-
Instron® Crack Opening Displacement transducers are designed specifically to perform standard ASTM and ISO fracture mechanics tests (both cyclic and static), covering all common specimen geometries (CT, SEB, Centre Crack, Arc Shaped). Each model offers class leading linearity, whilst being rugged enough to withstand the high energy release common in many of these applications and can be used at both elevated and sub-ambient temperatures. These gauges comply with requirements laid down in ASTM E399-09.

Pneumatic Side Action Tensile Grips
2712-04x Series
-
Instron’s pneumatic side-action grips provide a high-performance, repeatable, and safe gripping solution for a broad spectrum of materials — from fine wires, fibers, textiles and foils to plastics, elastomers and components — via air-actuated clamping that maintains constant force even as specimens deform. With quick, tool-free jaw face changes, optional alignment and centering devices, adjustable opening and flow control, and integrated safety features (e.g. jaw face shields), these grips are engineered for throughput and reproducibility operator protection in tensile testing applications.

Automated Testing Systems
-
Instron’s automated testing systems bring precision, productivity, and safety to materials testing by automating routine tensile, flexural, and compression operations. Available as full turnkey platforms or modular add-ons for existing test frames, these systems — including the AT3 three-axis, AT6 six-axis robotic, AT2 automated XY stages, CT6 cobot integration, and carousel stations — allow labs to boost throughput, reduce operator variability, and free up staff for higher-value activities. The systems are engineered to support a wide spectrum of materials (plastics, metals, films, composites, medical devices) and comply with international ASTM and ISO test standards while enhancing repeatability and workflow efficiency.

Mechanical Wedge Action Grips
2716 Series
-
The Instron mechanical wedge action grips are durable tensile grips designed to automatically increase clamping force as test loads rise, maintaining fixed jaw positions and preventing slippage. Their open-front, moving-body design allows easy specimen insertion while ensuring consistent gauge length and minimal compressive force during clamping, making them a versatile gripping solution and particularly suitable for testing high-strength materials such as metals and composites.

Furnaces
-
These three zone resistance wire wound furnaces are of split construction to facilitate fast and easy loading of a pre-assembled specimen train. The case is constructed from stainless steel with aluminium and hardened insulation board end plates. The optional front cut-out allows the use of side-entry high-temperature extensometry. Adjustable stainless steel latches keep the furnace halves locked together during use, but are then easily opened once testing is complete. The furnace is available with optional heavy duty brackets or mountings, which attach to a wide range of testing systems. An extensive range of standard controllers is available to suit most test regimes. Custom variants can be specified should the standard range not include a suitable unit.
